Job description

The Baltimore Sun is seeking a Social Media Producer/Host to create, manage, and deliver engaging video content across The Baltimore Sun’s social media platforms. The ideal candidate is comfortable in front of the camera, skilled in video production, and has a strong journalism background to uphold our commitment to accurate, impactful storytelling.

Essential Functions

  • Conceptualize, develop, shoot, and edit high-quality video content for platforms including Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, and Facebook, tailored to The Baltimore Sun’s audience.
  • Host on-camera segments, including interviews, news updates, and community-focused stories, with professionalism and authenticity. Represent The Sun on local television to highlight our journalism as needed.
  • Collaborate with the newsroom to identify trending stories and create timely, relevant social media content that aligns with our journalistic standards.
  • Monitor social media analytics to optimize content performance and report on engagement metrics.
  • Stay current with social media trends, tools, and best practices to keep content fresh and competitive.
  • Occasionally contribute written or multimedia journalism pieces to support digital and print coverage.
  • Develop and lead training for other journalists to enhance The Sun’s multimedia content.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in social media content creation and management, preferably in a news or media environment.
  • Proven on-camera experience, with strong presentation skills and the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in shooting and editing video using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar software.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, and analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or native platform insights).
  • Background in journalism, with knowledge of AP style, ethical reporting standards, and fact-checking processes.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different platforms and audiences.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced newsroom environment, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to breaking news situations.
  • Knowledge of Baltimore’s local culture, communities, and issues is a plus.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with live streaming and engaging audiences in real time.
  • Familiarity with graphic design and video editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere) for creating visually appealing social media assets.
  • Understanding of SEO and digital content strategies to maximize reach.

Salary Range: $50,000 to $65,000

Individual compensation may vary from the target range based on several factors including experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
