Social Media Manager

Supervisor: Associate Director of Marketing and Communications

Purpose of the Job

This role supports marketing and communication of the institution’s overall message through social media, building relationships, scheduling content, and coordinating content creation.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Primary manager of external social media accounts under the supervision of the Associate Director of Marketing
  • Implement social media strategies by scheduling posts as directed by the Associate Director of Marketing and Director of Marketing and Communications
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team on visual elements, verbal messaging, and video content for social media marketing
  • Represent the institution’s voice in original posts and respond via institutional social media accounts
    • Dedicated time daily to respond to messages, tags, and mentions
    • Dedicated time daily to proactively engage with the audience
    • Dedicated time to keep up with developments in SBC and evangelical circles to anticipate opportunities or issues
  • Regularly post organic social media content of campus life, live events, etc.
  • Coordinate with photographers, designers, and copywriters to execute content creation
  • Generate and execute creative, on‑brand video content
  • Cover chapel twice weekly during the school year
  • Cover events, conferences, or concerts on campus
Other Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist faculty, staff, and other offices with individual social media strategies
  • Liaise with other institutional social media accounts managed by other departments
  • Manage the @AroundSE social media to promote Student Life events
  • Coverage of the institution at the Southern Baptist Convention and other major conferences
  • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm new ideas for social media content
  • Cover event coverage or other social media needs in the absence of the manager
  • Assist other team members as needed and able

Knowledge and Skills

Required

  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure, collaborating with a multi‑task team of writers, designers, and supervisors
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail
  • Basic knowledge of CapCut or comparable video editing tools
  • Willingness to learn basic graphic design principles and skills for social media content creation
  • Willingness to master and communicate the “voice” of the institution

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field, or relevant social media marketing experience
  • Knowledge of content creation best practices
  • Basic working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud apps or Adobe Creative Cloud Express
  • Basic understanding of graphic design
Fiscal Responsibility

Oversight of budget for Meta advertising

Extent of Public Contact
  • Within the seminary: Regular contact with staff, faculty, students, event attendees, etc.
  • Outside the seminary: Occasional contact with members of the public at events, conferences, in the community, campus visitors or guests, etc.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand for long periods at events where seating is not provided
  • Ability to be on one’s feet for long periods while covering events or gathering content
Working Conditions and Environment
  • Attends certain campus events scheduled on weekends or weeknights
  • May require extra hours during weeks with multiple major events, including SBC Annual Meeting and bi‑annual Board of Trustees and Society meetings
  • Shares a collaborative office environment with 3–4 other staff members
