Social Media Intern - (NASA eMITS)

Rothe is seeking a Social Media Intern to provide support for digital communications and social media activities for the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency's enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). From photographing rocket launches and recoveries, to producing engaging videos, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA's message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA's communication to the outside world. Functional Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include:

• Brainstorm and develop creative concepts for social media campaigns, posts, and audience engagement.
• Research social media trends, creator best practices, and emerging digital content formats.
• Assist with the planning, scripting, production, and packaging of short-form video content, including Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and other vertical video formats.
• Participate in content planning meetings and contribute ideas for storytelling opportunities.
• Draft social media copy, captions, and supporting content.
• Support basic social media trend monitoring and audience insights activities.
• Collaborate with communications professionals on content development projects.

Software and tools may include:

Education and Experience:

Minimum Education:

Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Media, Multimedia Production, Film/Video, or a related field.

Minimum Experience:

Demonstrated experience through coursework, student organizations, internships, volunteer work, personal projects, or social media activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong interest in social media, digital communications, and content creation.
• Knowledge of major social media platforms and current social media trends.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Creative thinker with the ability to contribute ideas in a collaborative team environment.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with creating content for social media platforms.

Preferred Qualifications (not required for consideration):

• Basic experience with Adobe Photoshop for image editing and graphic support.
• Demonstrated awareness of social media culture, emerging trends, and platform-specific best practices, with the ability to translate trends into brand-appropriate content ideas.
• Experience using video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Express, CapCut, or similar applications.
• Understanding of social media analytics and performance metrics.
• Experience managing personal, student, organizational, or professional social media accounts.
• Interest in science communication, storytelling, multimedia production, or public affairs.

COMPENSATION:

$20.50 to $23.58/hr, part time (10 to 20 hours a week)

For this hybrid position, the employee bears travel costs to the nearest NASA Center for badging and issue of NASA IT equipment, and must have a reliable internet connection and be able to VPN into the NASA network to conduct work.
