Job summary

Assabet Co-op Market is seeking a part-time outreach assistant to support social media, events, and community engagement efforts. You will work under the Outreach & Communications Manager to promote the co-op, assist in-store and community events, and help deliver a welcoming, inclusive customer and member experience.

The role emphasizes collaboration with staff, attention to customer service, and flexibility for a roughly 15 hours/week schedule that may include evenings or weekends as events

Responsibilities

  • Provide social media marketing support across platforms under direction.
  • Assist with promotion of store initiatives, events, and community partnerships.
  • Gather content ideas from staff and create content to promote store and events.
  • Assist with light website updates and digital communications.
  • Use social media design tools; Mailchimp, website platforms, and Adobe Suite a plus.
  • Support planning and execution of monthly in-store events.
  • Provide on-site event support including setup and breakdown.
  • Assist with future off-site or tabling events.
  • Represent the co-op professionally at public-facing events.

Job description

To support Assabet Co-op Market’s outreach, visibility, and community engagement efforts through social media
marketing and monthly event support. This role serves as a functional lead for social media and events execution,
working under the direction of the Outreach & Communications Manager to help promote the co-op, support in-
store and community events, and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive customer and member experience.

Status
  • Reports To: Outreach & Communications Manager
  • Status: Non-exempt/hourly; Part time (approximately 15 hours per week)
  • Wage Level: Starting at $18.00/hour, range commensurate with experience
Essential Responsibilities and Functions

Customer Experience

  • Treat internal and external customers fairly, consistently and with respect
  • Exceed our customers’ expectations for service and provide a welcoming environment for all people and all
    diverse backgrounds and in accordance with the Co-op’s customer service standards
  • Model, provide, and ensure customers receive prompt, friendly and courteous services in a professional
    manner that demonstrates our cooperative advantage
  • Maintain a calm and friendly demeanor with all customers

Social Media & Communications Support

  • Assist with social media marketing across platforms following direction from the Outreach & Communications
    Manager
  • Support promotion of store initiatives, events, and community partnerships
  • Assist with gathering content ideas from staff and creating content as directed to promote the store and
    events
  • Support light website updates and digital communications
  • Use general social media design tools; Mailchimp, website platforms, and Adobe Suite a plus

Events Support & Coordination

  • Support planning and execution of monthly in-store events

  • Support representing the co-op professionally at public-facing events

General Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with staff as directed
  • Follow all co-op policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

All department staff must adhere to all policies and guidelines as laid out in the staff handbook and department level operating standards.

Scheduling & Availability

Approximately 15 hours per week. Schedule includes weekday hours with flexibility required, including occasional evenings and at least one weekend day per month. More hours may become available in the future as we grow, and may increase based on seasonal events in the summer.

Working Conditions

  • Retail grocery store environment with occasional outdoor or off-site settings
  • Potential exposure to cold, hot, wet or humid conditions
  • Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous materials ranging from natural to chemical (store products, cleaning products, scents from working in a public setting)
  • Exposure to and potential handling of fresh foods including meats and seafood
  • Handling objects that have been handled by the public
  • Frequently performs work standing on cement floors in the store
  • Noise level in the store is usually moderate to loud
