POLITICO is seeking a social media editor to expand our North American social media reach across Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and emerging channels. The role focuses on off-platform growth and driving business goals through data-informed, multimedia storytelling.

The candidate will work with newsroom leaders, reporters, and producers to develop social-first video projects and ensure newsroom workflows reflect best practices. A schedule outside normal hours may be required.

Job Description

POLITICO is seeking a social media editor to play a key role in our North American social media team — to help expand the reach of our journalism and connect with new audiences across a variety of formats and platforms. This role is focused on off-platform growth. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in growing our social audiences in strategic ways that drive our business goals, helping determine how our reporting reaches audiences on platforms including Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and emerging channels. They will also assist in the development and execution of social-first video projects, working closely with visual journalists to bring our journalism to life.

We're looking for someone who understands both the demands of a fast-moving newsroom and the realities of modern social platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong editorial thinker who knows what works on social and understands how to bring a multimedia newsroom to life.

What You’ll Do

• Publish to and manage our social accounts including Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and emerging channels.
• Implement social strategies and playbooks for breaking news, key policy coverage areas, enterprise projects, etc.
• Work with newsroom leaders, reporters and producers on social best practices.
• Work closely with product & tech teams to identify & implement social workflow improvements and tools across our website and app.
• Regularly share insights and takeaways with data and audience teams.
• Participate in daily coverage planning and be a voice for our audience.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to analyze audience data, identify trends, and provide timely recommendations that contribute to informed journalistic decisions.
• Maintain off‑platform standards and journalistic independence.
• Proactively identify opportunities for improvement in content creation, delivery, and audience engagement based on data analysis.
• Stay aware of social media trends, innovations, and best practices and incorporate them into the newsroom's workflow.

What You’ll Need

• 2-3 years of experience in social media, newsroom experience is required.
• Experience identifying, analyzing, and using data to independently test theories, confirm assumptions, and measure success via iteration and with attention to detail.
• Strong writing skills, and experience drafting compelling headlines and polished copy across a variety of formats.
• Excellent news judgment: This candidate will have to respond in breaking and fast‑moving scenarios and cover a wide‑variety of subject matters responsibly and fairly.
• Knowledge of politics and policy news.
• Fluency is a major plus.
• Experience editing and creating social video is not necessary, but is a major plus.
• NOTE: This role may require a schedule outside normal working hours.

COMPENSATION

$75,000 - $85,000 Annual Base. The final salary offered will be based on factors including relevant experience, skills, and qualifications. We value our people.
