SUMMARY

We're looking for a creative Social Media Designer with a strong foundation in design, content creation and social strategy to help bring brands to life across social for our clients.

This is an ideal role for a creator who's equal parts designer, storyteller and trend-spotter. You'll shape everything from static graphics and social posts to short-form video, photography, reels and campaign concepts, partnering with creative, social, PR and account teams to turn strategy into content people want to stop, watch, engage with and share.

This is a hybrid work from home/office position (in-office attendance is required on Tuesdays & Thursdays) and the candidate must live near Columbus, OH, Cleveland, OH, Denver, CO, New York, NY, or San Diego, CA.

At The Shipyard, we know that it's your unique talents, backgrounds, and perspectives that make you who you are, just like our team, who come from various career paths and experiences. We believe we can't be truly diverse without bringing your most authentic self to the agency.

Studies show that people from marginalized communities may not always apply for positions if they don't meet every single requirement in a job posting. At The Shipyard, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the requirements. We believe that your passion for what we stand for - our values and purpose - is just as important as meeting every checkbox.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Develop and execute social-first creative across multiple clients, including graphics, posts, stories, reels and other digital content
  • Ideate, concept and execute social media calendars that bring brand strategies and narratives to life
  • Create and edit short-form video for platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube
  • Capture and edit photography and video content as needed for social channels and campaigns
  • Brainstorm creative ideas, social concepts and campaign opportunities that connect brands with their audiences
  • Stay plugged into social trends, emerging formats, sounds, conversations and cultural moments—identify ways for clients to participate authentically
  • Write and/or support captions, headlines and social copy while helping maintain each brand’s voice and visual guidelines
  • Help develop and evolve brand guidelines and social creative best practices
  • Support community management by monitoring brand channels and engaging with audiences in a timely, thoughtful way
  • Collaborate with social, PR, creative, account and other agency disciplines to bring integrated campaigns and promotions to life
  • Make thoughtful creative revisions based on feedback from managers, teammates and clients
  • Monitor basic engagement and performance metrics and help identify what content is resonating with audiences
  • Support reporting by helping connect creative performance to broader social and client goals
  • Manage multiple projects and clients while keeping work organized, on brief and on deadline
  • Bring new tools, technologies and creative approaches to the team as the social landscape continues to evolve
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • 3-7 years of experience in graphic design, social media, marketing, content creation or a related field
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strong visual storytelling and social-first creative. School, freelance, personal and professional work all count
  • A strong visual eye and attention to detail, with an understanding of how creative needs to flex across social platforms
  • Experience creating content for platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube
  • Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut and Figma
  • A solid understanding of current social media trends, formats, sounds and audience behaviors
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to take direction, incorporate feedback and continuously improve the work
  • Curiosity and a desire to learn, experiment and stay ahead of how social and digital content is evolving
STAND OUT CANDIDATES HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH
  • Photography or videography
  • Motion graphics or animation
  • Copywriting
  • Branding and visual identity
  • Social media analytics
  • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro or After Effects
WHAT YOU'LL GET
  • The opportunity to work across social, creative, PR and digital, with exposure to a broad range of brands and industries
  • Hands-on experience taking social content from idea to execution to performance, rather than simply producing against a brief
  • The opportunity to build a diverse portfolio of social-first work across formats, platforms and clients
  • A team that values curiosity, collaboration and ideas—and encourages you to bring your perspective to the work
  • Exposure to emerging social platforms, creative tools, trends and technologies, with room to experiment and learn
  • Opportunities to grow your skills across design, content creation, social strategy, video, branding and integrated campaigns
  • The overall target range of base compensation for this role is $60,000 - $67,000. Compensation offered will be determined by additional factors such as location and experience.
