Job summary

Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) seeks an Economist (Social-Economic Impact) to support its operations and thought leadership on socioeconomic issues. The role focuses on social development, health, poverty, inequality, labor markets, social protection, and gender, integrating these dimensions into project lending and policy-based finance.

The Economist will collaborate with multiple departments, contribute to flagship reports, and help build an external research ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in economics or related field with focus on social development.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in large international organizations or similar.
• Expertise in development economics and project-level socioeconomic assessments.
• Academic research or policy analysis publications a plus.
• Experience across sectors such as energy, transport, health, climate, urban development.
• Excellent oral and written communication in English.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in multicultural environments.

Responsibilities

• Work with Bank departments to integrate social and inclusive dimensions into project design and policy lending operations.
• Conduct economic analysis on health, poverty, inequality, labor markets, social protection, and gender to support appraisals and impact assessment.
• Collaborate to advance AIIB’s gender and economic inclusion agenda upstream and downstream.
• Support research and thought leadership through flagship reports, policy briefs, and technical reports.
• Represent the Bank in technical discussions and policy forums on health, poverty, inequality, labor markets, and gender.
