Job Opportunities

The County of Cape May has a vacancy for a full-time (35 hours per week) Social/Family Service Worker Trainee at the Division of Social Services. The current vacancy is in the Case Management/Emergency Assistance Unit. The Case Management/Emergency Assistance unit assists eligible consumers with barriers to employment activity compliance and temporary housing, temporary rental assistance, eviction and utility shut-off preventions, etc.

Education: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a human services area of study, BSW preferred. Bilingual a plus. Experience providing direct social services to consumers is preferred.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Collect information from consumers to identify any barriers to stable housing.
  2. Complete a Comprehensive Social Assessment in conjunction with WFNJ recipients to identify barriers to self-sufficiency or work readiness.
  3. Develop and monitor compliance of the consumer’s CSA interventions and the Emergency Assistance Service Plan. Conduct phone and/or face-to-face contacts with consumers and partner agencies to monitor activity progress.
  4. Provide consumers with linkages to partner agencies for ancillary services.
  5. Assist consumers with arranging support services as needed.
  6. Utilize various systems to look up, track, and input consumer information.
  7. Document all consumer contacts and collaterals in the consumer case file (electronic and/or paper).
  8. Maintain all other documentation required as part of the consumer case file.

Skills needed:

  1. Knowledge of services and resources available to consumers of Cape May County.
  2. Excellent organizational skills.
  3. Knowledge of basic computer programs and office equipment including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, fax machine, etc.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  6. Compassion and a willingness to assist vulnerable individuals/families through a poverty and trauma informed lens.
