Job description

SNUG is based on the nationally known Cure Violence Model, which targets youth ages 14-24 who are at risk of gun violence. Its goal is to end gun violence by identifying and engaging city youth most at risk of involvement in shooting through education and community outreach.

JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Canvas designated zones or other areas that have been assigned by the Supervisor;
  2. Mediate conflicts that could lead to violence in target areas;
  3. Visit highest risk participants (6 per month) and help with any obstacles they may have;
  4. Participate in weekly one to one supervision with Program Supervisor or Manager;
  5. Participate in weekly staff meetings;
  6. Enter daily log, case notes, and mediations into database;
  7. Work with community stakeholders to educate the community about violence (1-minute pitch);
  8. Fulfill other responsibilities as required;
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
  1. Must be out of prison for at least 18 months, have no pending charges and may not have any convictions for sex offenses;
  2. If an applicant is on probation or parole, the prospective Outreach Worker must get clearance from his/her probation or parole officer before being hired.
  3. This position requires someone to know the city of Newburgh extensively. As a result, the candidate must reside in the city of Newburgh.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work conditions may include exposure to inclement weather and noise. This job requires consistent punctuality and attendance. The Outreach Worker will spend most of their work time walking and standing.
