Job summary

Mountain Capital Partners is hiring a Seasonal Snowmaking Operator at Arizona Snowbowl in Flagstaff, AZ. Position Type: Seasonal

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate on-hill snowmaking equipment, snow guns, hydrants, on-board compressors, and high-voltage/high-pressure systems, following all required safety precautions.
  • Produce high-quality machine-made snow by applying proper techniques, including snow type selection, gun placement, and hose management.
  • Monitor and interpret wet-bulb temperatures and weather conditions to optimize snow production and quality.
  • Adjust and maintain proper air and water flow rates for maximum snowmaking efficiency.
  • Assist supervisors with system start-up, shut-down, and equipment relocation as needed throughout the season.
  • Monitor and maintain gun run conditions, including managing ice buildup, clearing hoses, and applying proper padding.
  • Know the snowmaking system layout: pumphouse, hydrants, valves, gun locations, and general mountain terrain.
  • Inspect and wear all required PPE daily; follow all safety procedures and comply with Arizona Snowbowl's Lockout/Tagout program.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors; accurately report equipment issues, safety concerns, and production data.
  • Prevent damage to natural and resort features, including trees, lifts, buildings, and vehicles.
  • Arrive each shift dressed appropriately for cold weather with suitable waterproof footwear.
  • Follow all resort sustainability guidelines for responsible snowmaking operations. This is a weather-dependent position. Hours are not guaranteed and will fluctuate based on conditions and operational needs. A standard 40‑hour workweek cannot be guaranteed.
  • Record time in Paycom at the start and end of every shift, verify entries daily, and confirm your timecard at the close of each pay period.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record if driving vehicles on the road.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work up to 12‑hour shifts (nights, weekends, and holidays); longer or shorter shifts may be required.
  • Ability to work in extreme and unpredictable weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Physical strength and stamina to lift, pull, and move up to 80 lbs of equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and a team‑oriented mindset.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior outdoor or mountain operations experience.
  • Ability to ski or snowboard at high elevations in variable conditions.
  • Experience operating utility vehicles, ATVs, or UTVs.
  • Basic plumbing, electrical, or mechanical maintenance experience.
  • CPR/First Aid/WFR certification.
Work Environment
Material and Equipment Directly Used
  • Flashlights, radios, 1/2‑ton pickup trucks, UTVs, tracked UTVs, snowmaking guns, snow hoses with couplers, wrenches, hammers, shovels, picks, digging bars, trailers, confined space rescue equipment, and other related industrial tools and supplies.
Working Environment / Physical Activities
  • The majority of the workday is spent outdoors at night in a mountainous environment, with constantly changing weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, and wetness. 25% of the time is spent sitting (riding in a tracked or other style vehicle), 55% walking and hiking, and 20% standing. Must have the ability to hike for sustained periods of time at a high elevation and in inclement, unpredictable, and cold weather conditions at night.
  • Frequently bending, kneeling, handling, reaching, grasping, and performing repetitive motions like climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, handling, operating controls, and feeling objects.
  • Noise levels can reach 100 decibels (without hearing protection) for six hours of the workday. With hearing protection, noise levels reach approximately 71 decibels. Wearing ear protection is required when making snow on the hill.
  • Frequently using far acuity and depth perception in an often limited field of vision.
  • Frequent exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards.
