Job summary

Skeetawk is seeking a dedicated Snowcat Operator to join our on-site mountain operations in Palmer, AK. This full-time position focuses on grooming snow surfaces, maintaining access roads, and supporting mountain safety.

You will perform pre- and post-operation inspections, monitor snow and weather conditions, and adapt grooming techniques to ensure consistent terrain and guest safety. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, safe operation of heavy equipment, and the ability to work early

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment or snowcats and strong handling skills.
• Basic mechanical knowledge for routine inspections and minor maintenance.
• Ability to work safely in cold, low-visibility, alpine conditions for extended periods.
• Strong communication and coordination with mountain operations and ski patrol.
• Reliability and ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Comfort working independently, following procedures and safety protocols.
• Snow resort or mountain operations experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate snow grooming equipment to prepare and maintain ski and riding surfaces and designated areas.
• Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of machinery and report issues.
• Monitor snow and weather conditions and adjust grooming techniques accordingly.
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and routine repairs as needed.
• Coordinate with mountain operations and ski patrol to support safety and operations.
• Work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by operations.
• Maintain safety, cleanliness and good working relationships on site.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Snowcat Operator role based in Palmer, AK. The Snowcat Operator is responsible for operating snow grooming equipment to prepare and maintain ski and riding surfaces, access roads, and designated work areas. Daily tasks include conducting pre- and post-operation inspections of machinery, monitoring snow and weather conditions, and adjusting grooming techniques to ensure safe, consistent terrain. The role also involves performing basic equipment maintenance, reporting mechanical issues, and working closely with operations and ski patrol teams to support overall mountain safety. The Snowcat Operator may work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by mountain operations.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment or snowcats, with strong equipment handling and situational awareness skills.
• Basic mechanical aptitude, including the ability to perform routine inspections and minor maintenance on machinery.

• Previous ski resort, mountain operations, or snow grooming experience is preferred but not required.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record; ability to meet any company driving and safety requirements.
• Physical ability to climb in and out of equipment, sit for long periods, and work in a snowy, uneven outdoor environment.
