Position Summary
The Snow Operator safely and efficiently performs snow and ice management services using approved equipmenton assigned routes or properties. This seasonal hourly / nonexempt role reports to the Field Supervisor /Operations Manager and requires prior experience, on-call availability, and strong safety, quality, andcommunication.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate plow trucks, spreaders, skid steers, loaders, and other snow equipment only when trained andauthorized.
- Plow lots, drives, access lanes, and loading areas according to route priorities, site instructions, andstandards.
- Apply deicers according to company direction and site conditions; assist with sidewalks, cleanup, andmaterials.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and immediately report equipment defects, damage, or unsafeconditions.
- Monitor accumulation, ice, visibility, traction, refreeze risk, and changing road and site conditions throughouteach event.
- Protect parked vehicles, curbs, landscaping, buildings, light poles, pedestrians, and other property whilenavigating confined areas.
- Promptly report route progress, delays, hazards, incidents, injuries, property damage, and equipmentconcerns.
- Follow PPE requirements, winter procedures, and supervisor instructions; maintain safe speeds, alertness,and a steady work pace without sacrificing quality.
- Maintain dependable attendance and prompt call-in response; remain on duty until assigned work iscompleted or management releases the employee.
Required Qualifications
- Professional snow and ice management or comparable winter equipment operating experience is required.
- Safely operate at least one applicable piece of snow equipment and work independently with sound judgment.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record required when operating company vehicles;maintain both for continued driving duties.
- Must successfully pass the company-required pre-employment background check and drug test.
- Reliable winter transportation; understand route instructions, site maps, assignments, and supervisor direction.
- Prompt response to weather-driven call-ins and required on-call availability, including nights, early mornings,weekends, and holidays.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Work outdoors for extended periods in snow, sleet, freezing rain, wind, darkness, extreme cold, and wind chill.
- Stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, push, pull, climb, and balance on icy, wet, uneven, snowy, or sloped surfaces.
- Lift and carry at least 50 pounds of tools, salt, and materials, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work around moving vehicles, winter equipment, traffic, loud noise, vibration, exhaust, salt, moisture, andslush.
- Work extended or overnight shifts and overtime as required by storm duration, accumulation, route conditions,and client needs while maintaining alertness.
