Job summary

AMD, Inc. in Austin, TX, is hiring SMTS Software System Design Engineer to research, design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software for semiconductor operations.

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software for enhancements and new semiconductor products. Develop software and tools in support of electronic design, infrastructure and technology platforms, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, and/or databases.

Qualifications

• Master’s or foreign-equivalent degree in CS/CE/EE or related field.
• 3 years of related engineering experience or 5 years with Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience with Unix/Linux, GPU/CPU architectures, and open-source development.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, develop, and test OS-level software, compilers, and network distribution software for semiconductor operations.
• Develop software and tools supporting electronic design, infrastructure and technology platforms.
• Drive projects with independent judgment and apply engineering principles to AMD systems and products.

Job Role and Responsibility:

AMD, Inc., is hiring SMTS Software System Design Engineer to Research, design, develop, and/or test operating systems-level software, compilers, and/or network distribution software for semiconductor operations, applying principles and techniques of computer science, electronic engineering, and mathematical analysis. Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software for enhancements and new semiconductor products. Develop software and tools in support of electronic design, infrastructure and technology platforms, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, and/or databases. Determine hardware compatibility and/or influence hardware design. Drive projects or processes of significant technical importance. Exercise independent judgment to select methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results with little to no supervision. Utilize knowledge of computers and electronics, including computer hardware and software, applications, and programming, as well as knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. Apply knowledge of engineering principles, best practices, and technologies to the design, development, and testing of various AMD systems and products.

Qualifications: Degree required

Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field.

Qualifications: Amount and type of experience required

Three (3) years of experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role.

Alternate combination of education and experience:

Employer will alternatively accept a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or closely related engineering role.

Specific skills required: The following skills are required:

Position requires two (2) years of experience in the following:

• System architecture;
• Running, analyzing, and system benchmarks;
• Programming in Python, C, or C++;
• Unix/Linux environments;
• CPU and GPU architecture;
• GPU programming;
• Machine-Learning;
• Object Oriented design;
• Code optimization using GPU or software performance analysis;
• GNU toolchain; and
• Open source software development.
