Job summary

Rocket EMS in Santa Clara, CA seeks an SMT Setup Operator to prepare materials, feeders, and equipment for surface mount production. You will ensure each SMT job is set up accurately per BOM, machine program, setup docs, and customer requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience with SMT setup, feeder prep, electronics manufacturing, or material handling preferred.
• Familiarity with SMT reels, feeders, trolleys, pick-and-place equipment, and setup docs a plus.
• Ability to identify components, package types, polarity markings, and reference designators.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow BOMs, setup sheets, and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Review schedules, travelers, BOMs, setup sheets, and load lists before starting setup.
• Stage component reels, trays, feeders, and trolleys for scheduled SMT jobs.
• Verify part numbers, quantities, package types, polarity, and feeder locations against docs.
• Load reels into feeders and install onto trolleys per machine setup and program requirements.
• Record materials, feeders, and production data to maintain traceability.
• Prepare offline setups to minimize downtime and support changeovers.
• Assist with loading and changing over SMT pick-and-place equipment.
• Remove feeders and materials after runs and return unused components.
• Follow ESD and MSD handling requirements and storage controls.
• Inspect feeders, reels, and packaging for damage or contamination.
• Identify and report material shortages, incorrect components, or documentation discrepancies.
