Southern Middle School in Lusby, Maryland is seeking an experienced Science Fair Coordinator to oversee the school science fair, coordinate judges and forms, and ensure projects meet all rules for county advancement.

The role reports to the School Principal and requires strong communication, leadership, and task-management skills to guide students and staff through the process for the 2026-27 school year.

POSITION:SMSScience Fair Coordinator (Job # 3913)

LOCATION: Southern Middle School

JOB SUMMARY:The sponsor is responsible for working with the Secondary Science Supervisor and building principal to develop, implement, and evaluate their school’s science fair. The employee will select the date for the school fair, arrange the location, awards, judges, and determine which projects advance to the county fair. The teacher will assemble the latest required forms, explain their use, and distribute them to the science teachers. The coordinator reviews all paperwork to ensure that each project entering the school fair has completed the necessary forms and is in compliance with all rules. The teacher also provides assistance at the county science fair.

REPORTS TO:School Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current year Extra Pay for Extra Duty Longevity Pay Schedule.

EVALUATION:Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.

EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION:School Year 2026-2027

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
