Job summary

RTD is seeking a Director-level Safety and Environmental Compliance professional to manage and enhance the organization’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) across rail and bus modes. Responsibilities include developing SSPP/PTASP programs, leading safety initiatives, and guiding data-driven safety improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, System Safety Engineering, Occupational and Industrial Safety Management or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in system safety assurance, certification, and reporting with strong data analysis.
• Minimum 3 years of experience leading or supervising people.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise-wide safety management system design, deployment, and oversight.
• Drive safety initiatives to reduce accidents and injuries with risk management strategies.
• Manage System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) and PTASP for compliance and continuous improvement.
• Develop safety education programs and conduct employee engagement outreach.
• Ensure safety compliance in bus and rail projects and standards adherence.
• Chair safety committees; analyze safety data for trends and metrics.
• Oversee hazard management, risk assessments, investigations and corrective actions.
• Supervise and develop staff and support Chief Safety Officer.
