Job Title: SME - RF Engineer IBW Consultant – Senior (ONSITE)

Job Description:

The Contractor shall provide an RF Engineer / In-Building Wireless Consultant with at least five years of experience working in operational public safety communications systems. The RF Engineering Consultant will be responsible for working with LMR radios, software, and programs. Additionally, the consultant will design, test, and implement Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) supporting FirstNet and P25 public safety radio communications.

The RF Engineering Consultant will perform technical work related to Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and wireless systems engineering, design, testing, and implementation. Responsibilities include program review, licensing compliance, requirements gathering, design review, change management, and final system acceptance. Tasks involve testing and acceptance of DAS systems, FCC licensing, and radio coverage testing, including antennas and link budgets, in collaboration with equipment vendors. The consultant will also conduct planning to meet current and future communication needs and analyze hardware/software performance within existing systems.

Day-to-Day Tasks:
  • Support projects related to radio system infrastructure, subscriber radio deployment, DAS performance monitoring, interference resolution, and system testing and acceptance.
  • Develop and review criteria for IBW proposals and applications, ensuring compliance.
  • Perform field surveys of BDA installations and troubleshoot IBW network interference and coverage issues.
  • Support radio programming requests, manage encryption/upgrades, and develop training and technical guidelines for radio use.
  • Maintain and calibrate Motorola P25 radios and support client radio operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Assess technical and operational practices for upgrades and system changes based on industry standards.
  • Provide SME support for Public Safety Radio, DAS, and BDA systems.
  • Conduct research on new or existing wireless products and analyze information to prepare reports.
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Certification in related areas (e.g., NICET) is a plus.
Skills and Experience:
  • 11+ years in complex enterprise projects; experience in public safety radio systems and DAS systems (minimum 5 years).
  • 3+ years in interoperable radio communications, P25, 4G/5G DAS systems, RF coverage analysis, and drive testing.
  • Experience in developing fleetmaps, code plugs, radio programming, and troubleshooting wireless systems including LMR, 4G/5G, and DAS.
  • Knowledge of LTE, P25 standards, and public safety interoperability.
  • At least 1 year in DAS operations and wireless communications theory and practice (total 6+ years).
