Job summary

The City of Ottawa is hiring a Service Technician to perform meter reading, manage the AMI Smart Meter program, connect and disconnect utilities, and handle service work orders. You will read water and electric meters, test hydrants, operate valves, and document maintenance history while providing customer service at the utility counter and coordinating with city staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• College coursework or related training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage, implement, and analyze the AMI Smart Meter program.
• Read water and electric meters accurately, completing meter routes and troubleshooting as needed.
• Disconnect utilities for delinquent accounts.
• Connect and disconnect water and electric meters.
• Perform meter work orders, including repair and replacement of meters and components.
• Regularly exercise and inspect water distribution system valves.
• Conduct fire hydrant flow testing and preventive maintenance.
• Document hydrant and valve data using digital tools.
• Manage school crossing light timers according to schedules.
• Collect money from bulk water dispenser and make repairs as needed.
• Transport deposits from other city facilities.
• Provide customer service at the utility counter and assist with inquiries.
