Job summary

Granite Construction in Milpitas, CA is seeking a motivated Small Tools/Inventory Assistant to support the field tools department. You will help with maintenance, inventory control, parts ordering, and coordinating tool deliveries to ensure projects stay on schedule.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 0–3 years in a small tools or construction support role, and a hands-on ability to perform basic electrical repairs, welding, and small engine work. We value accuracy and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; 0–3 years in small tools environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of parts management, inventory control, and material ordering.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on small tools to ensure operability before delivery.
  • Coordinate field mechanical support to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain inventory levels and process material orders and shipments.
  • Coordinate delivery of materials and tools to the field to meet project schedules.
  • Maintain records and invoices for parts to support construction schedules.
  • Develop relationships with Granite suppliers for timely receipt of goods.
  • Support safety initiatives and ensure safety standards are met.
  • Provide pick-up and delivery service of tools and supplies when required.

We’re building more than infrastructure; we are building your future.General SummaryThis position is responsible for assisting the small tools department manager/administrator with field support, inventory control, delivery, documentation, invoices, inside sales and customer service to ensure an efficient and productive operation.Essential Job AccountabilitiesPerform periodic maintenance on small tools equipment to ensure tools are in good operating order before delivery to jobs.Coordinate mechanical support for the field when necessary to mitigate potential down time of small tools equipment.Maintains inventory levels, orders materials and performs all shipping and receiving functions to ensure stock levels meet business demands in a cost effective manner.Coordinates delivery of materials and tools to the field in a cost effective and efficient manner to meet project schedules.Communicates daily with manager and maintains records and invoices on parts to assist in the proper coordination of construction schedules.Develop and maintain good relationships with Granite suppliers to ensure timely and accurate receipt of goods.Facilitate a safety first attitude in all work to ensure Company safety standards are met.Depending on location provide pick-up and delivery service of tools and supplies and inspect all vehicles to ensure timely and safe delivery.EducationHigh School Diploma.Work Experience0-3 years progressive experience in small tools environment preferredKnowledge, skills, and abilitiesWorking knowledge of parts management, inventory control, and material ordering within a construction environmentExperience performing basic electrical repairs, including replacing wiring and lighting componentsWelding experience preferredAbility to perform mechanical repairs such as replacing wheel bearingsExperience troubleshooting and repairing small enginesStrong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate recordsPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard.The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Additional Requirements/SkillsAbility to abide by Granite’s code of conduct on a daily basisA team player.Our Benefits at a Glance:Building tomorrow starts with you, and Granite knows that you can excel only if we support you in and out of the workplace.
