Job description

Small Mill Cutoff Operator - Off Shift - $28.71/hour plus $1.00/hour shift differential

Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Small Mill Cutoff Operator to be based out of Harvey, IL, located approximately 30 miles south of Downtown Chicago. Reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor, the Small Mill Cutoff Operator will be responsible for operating the mill cutoff and monitoring product quantity and quality.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years' experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, processing steel. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based companies is a plus.

What you'll do:

  1. Set up Tube Mill including overseeing the flying cut-off, deburr, and packaging equipment.
  2. Ensure quality based on specifications provided with work orders by performing regular quality checks using tape measure, micrometer, caliper, and visual inspections.
  3. Complete inspection paperwork on time.
  4. Operate packaging equipment or manual banding equipment.
  5. Handle products to produce safe bundles for transport.
  6. Conduct daily safety inspections of the work area.
  7. Fill out hourly reports.

  1. Experience in industrial manufacturing.
  2. Strong organizational skills and a sense of urgency, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  3. Ability to pass the post-offer employment process, including a drug screening.

Within 3 months, you'll:

  1. Show progress and/or complete job-specific training.
  2. Become familiar with Atkore's Business System and understand the importance of your role in daily operations.
  3. Gain a basic understanding of your duties and job expectations.
