Job description

Small Group Personal Trainer

Location: Middleton, WI
Position Type: Personal Training / Fitness Coaching
Schedule: Alternating morning shifts, evening shifts, and Saturday mornings

Position Overview

We are seeking an energetic, knowledgeable, and relationship-driven Personal Trainer to lead small group personal training sessions in a supportive, community-focused fitness environment.

Unlike traditional large group fitness classes, sessions are intentionally kept small—typically no more than six participants—allowing trainers to provide individualized coaching while still creating the motivation, accountability, and energy of a group setting.

This is a great opportunity for a trainer who enjoys getting to know clients personally, adapting workouts to different abilities, and helping people build strength, confidence, and sustainable fitness habits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead engaging, coach-led small group personal training sessions with up to six participants.
  • Provide individualized instruction within the group setting based on each client's fitness level, mobility, limitations, injuries, and personal goals.
  • Demonstrate exercises and provide hands‑on coaching related to proper form, technique, and movement.
  • Modify exercises as needed to create safe, effective, and appropriately challenging workouts.
  • Build meaningful relationships with clients and create a welcoming, encouraging training environment.
  • Help clients establish realistic fitness goals and maintain accountability toward those goals.
  • Track client progress and make adjustments to training programs as clients become stronger and more confident.
  • Conduct or assist with fitness, strength, mobility, and body‑composition assessments.
  • Educate clients on strength training, healthy habits, recovery, and practical nutrition concepts that complement their fitness goals.
  • Provide motivation and encouragement while helping clients remain consistent with their training.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and safe training environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other coaches and team members to provide an excellent client experience.
Schedule & Availability

Candidates should have flexibility to work a combination of:

  • Alternating morning shifts
  • Evening shifts
  • Saturday mornings
Required Certifications

Candidates must hold a current certification from at least one of the following recognized organizations/programs:

  • NASM – National Academy of Sports Medicine
  • NSCA – National Strength and Conditioning Association
  • ACE – American Council on Exercise
  • CSCS – Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
Qualifications
  • Current qualifying personal training or strength and conditioning certification required.
  • Previous personal training, fitness coaching, strength training, or related experience preferred.
  • CPR/AED certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong understanding of exercise technique, strength training, mobility, and safe exercise modifications.
  • Ability to confidently coach clients with different fitness levels and abilities within the same session.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Positive, encouraging, and professional coaching style.
  • Comfortable working with adults who may be new to strength training or returning to exercise after time away.
  • Dependable, organized, and passionate about helping others achieve long‑term results.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate understands that great personal training is about more than leading a workout. You enjoy coaching the individual, learning what motivates each client, celebrating progress, and creating an environment where people feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level.

You will thrive in this role if you enjoy the personalized nature of one‑on‑one training but also appreciate the energy, community, and accountability that comes from training clients in a small group environment.

Why This Opportunity?
  • Coach small groups rather than crowded fitness classes.
  • Build genuine, ongoing relationships with clients.
  • Deliver personalized training while benefiting from the energy of a group environment.
  • Help clients improve strength, mobility, confidence, and everyday quality of life.
  • Work in a coaching‑focused environment centered on progress and accountability.
  • Join a team that values individualized programming and a welcoming client experience.
