Qualifications

Responsibilities

Description

The Personal Trainer is responsible for providing one-on-one and/or small group training sessions, personalized fitness programs, and expert guidance to help clients achieve their fitness goals. This role involves assessing client fitness levels, developing customized training plans, and providing motivation and education on exercise techniques, nutrition, and overall wellness. The ideal candidate is passionate about fitness, dedicated to helping others, and skilled in building relationships to foster long-term success. This is a part-time position.

  • Personalized Training: Develop and deliver customized fitness programs based on clients’ fitness levels, goals, and preferences, including strength training, cardio, flexibility, and injury rehabilitation.
  • Client Assessments: Conduct fitness assessments (e.g., body composition, strength, endurance, flexibility) to create baseline measurements and track client progress.
  • Instruction and Guidance: Demonstrate exercises and provide clear instructions on proper form, techniques, and safety protocols to ensure clients perform exercises correctly and effectively.
  • Motivation & Support: Offer encouragement, positive feedback, and continuous support to clients to help them stay motivated and achieve their goals.
  • Accountability: Track client progress, monitor changes in fitness levels, and provide regular feedback on performance. Adjust training programs as needed to ensure continued improvement.
  • Health & Wellness Education: Educate clients on fitness and health topics, including nutrition, injury prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices, to support holistic well-being.
  • Customer Service: Build strong, positive relationships with clients by maintaining a professional, approachable demeanor, and addressing their needs and concerns promptly.
  • Facility Standards: Ensure proper use of gym equipment and maintain a clean and organized workout environment. Report any maintenance issues with equipment.
  • Scheduling & Administrative Tasks: Schedule training sessions with clients, track session attendance, and ensure timely documentation of client progress.
  • Sales and Client Retention: Actively promote personal training services and programs to members, generate leads, and work to retain clients through excellent service.
  • Continuing Education: Stay up to date with the latest trends, certifications, and best practices in fitness, exercise science, and wellness. Attend training workshops and conferences as required by the facility.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

  • Certification: Nationally recognized certification in personal training (e.g., NASM, ACE, NSCA, ISSA, etc.). Additional certifications in specialized areas (e.g., strength training, corrective exercise, nutrition, etc.) are a plus.
  • Experience: Proven experience in personal training, including the ability to develop customized workout plans and track client progress.
  • Knowledge of Fitness Principles: Strong understanding of exercise physiology, nutrition, injury prevention, and program design.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
  • Motivation and Leadership: Ability to inspire clients, keep them accountable, and motivate them to push past their limits.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify client challenges and adapt training programs to overcome obstacles, including dealing with injuries or special needs.
  • Professionalism: Punctual, dependable, and professional in appearance and conduct. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and high energy during training sessions.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to demonstrate exercises and maintain an active role in workouts for the duration of the session.
  • Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with scheduling software and the ability to track and document client progress using fitness tracking tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR/AED Certification: Current certification in CPR and AED.
  • Specialized Certifications: Additional certifications in specialized fitness areas such as sports performance, corrective exercise, pre/post-natal, senior fitness, or nutrition coaching are a plus.
  • Experience with Group Fitness: Experience or interest in leading small group training or group fitness classes is an advantage.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and maintain a high level of physical activity for extended periods during client sessions.
  • Capable of lifting and setting up equipment as needed for individual and group training sessions.

Work Schedule

  • Flexible hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and peak times based on client availability and facility needs.
  • Willingness to accommodate clients’ schedules to provide consistent and convenient training opportunities.
