Small Engine Mechanic
Job Title: Small Engine Mechanic Reports To: General Maintenance Supervisor
Classification: Auxiliary (Skilled Labor)
Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt
Days: 250 Days (2nd Shift, 1:30 pm-10:00 pm)
Salary: See Compensation Plan for Auxiliary Staff, Pay Grade 308

Primary Purpose: Maintain the SBISD custodial, maintenance, and grounds equipment in good working condition.
Qualifications/Skills: Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience required.
- Valid current Class "B" CDL or Class "C" Texas driver's license.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Ability to work well with both subordinates and those appointed above. Ability to perform well with a team. .
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to perform extensive physical and repetitive activities, including but not limited to pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, carrying and regular lifting of 105 pounds.
- Knowledge of small gasoline engines, machines such as compressors, generators, lifts, hand tools including their designs and uses, power tools including drills, screw guns, and compact wrenches.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities: Maintenance and Repair:
- Repair and maintenance of small gasoline engines 2-cycle and 4-cycle, repair compressors, generators, maintain and repair custodial operation cleaning equipment (auto scrubbers, power washers, floor machines, etc.) Has some knowledge of, hydraulic systems and related equipment.
- Adjust points, valves, carburetors, distributors, and spark plug gaps, using feeler gauges.
- Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and oiling parts, checking a replacing batteries, checking starter mechanisms, making sure equipment is operating properly.
- Test and inspect engines to determine malfunctions, to locate missing and broken parts, and to verify repairs, using diagnostic instruments.
- Support vehicle maintenance when needed.
Records and Inventory:
- Maintain an inventory and itemize costs on each job.
- Complete daily man-hour logs and other required documentation.
Other:
- Follow proper safety requirements.
- Working Hours may be modified at the discretion of supervisory personnel, occasionally overtime is required.
- Random drug testing as required by D.O.T.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used: A variety of hand tools, testing gauges, and battery operated tools, electric tools, grinders, compressors, a variety of other tools as it relates to small engines, and light truck, van, or box truck.
Working Conditions: Mental Demands:
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
- This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
Physical Demands:
- Continual standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.
- Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder), moderate lifting and carrying.
- Occasional overtime is required.
- Work for continuous or extended periods of time.
Environmental Factors:
- Exposure to sun, heat, cold, poor weather conditions and/or mechanical equipment noise.
- Exposure to chemicals.
- Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles.
