Job summary

Cal Poly Humboldt is seeking a Boating Safety Officer to oversee the university’s small-boat fleet, train operators, and ensure USCG-compliant safety standards. You will schedule vessels, review float plans, and document operator certifications while coordinating maintenance with vendors.

The role requires hands-on maintenance, training program development, and collaboration with faculty, staff, and students to support maritime education and research at the Humboldt campus.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services or related equipment experience.
• Two years of college with 16 semester units in relevant courses may substitute for one year of experience.
• MOITC/MOTC instructor training and related certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promote safe use of the small boats for academic research and teaching.
• Develop and implement operator training programs and certify users.
• Review and approve float plans for academic activities.
• Inspect boats, motors, trailers, and safety equipment; coordinate repairs.
• Maintain records for vessels, maintenance, and operator certifications.
• Support fiscal management and budget tracking for the Boating Program.
• Serve on Academic Boat Safety Committee.
