Job summary

Cal Poly Maritime Academy in Vallejo, CA, seeks a dedicated Public Safety Officer to patrol and protect campus grounds, engage with students, staff, and visitors, and coordinate with local law enforcement. The role emphasizes judgment, discretion, and professional conduct while supporting routine security, safety escorts, and event coverage.

You will monitor facilities including the pier and training ship, respond to incidents, and maintain confidential records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and three months of related experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) to work aboard the training ship.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and secure campus grounds, facilities, and designated areas—including the pier and training ship—while identifying and addressing safety concerns, policy violations, and potential hazards.
• Provide safety escorts, event support, customer assistance, report preparation, and parking enforcement.
• Support emergency response efforts, assist with crime prevention initiatives, and maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality in all aspects of work.
