Job summary

Formlabs is seeking an SLS Materials Scientist in Somerville, MA, to lead the development of world-class materials for 3D printing. You will drive from lab explorations to validation and commercialization, collaborating with product, hardware, and software teams to improve material performance based on customer feedback.

You should bring hands-on thermo-plastic engineering experience, a strong materials science background, and a passion for rigorous testing and data-driven optimization.

• Experience bringing a new material to market from ideation to production.
• Solid understanding of materials science and polymer product development.
• Hands-on experience in thermoplastics engineering.
• Passionate about testing and troubleshooting; not afraid to iterate extensively.
• Ability to design and conduct rigorous experiments to optimize materials.

Responsibilities

• Build world-class SLS materials for 3D printing from initial lab explorations to validation and commercialization.
• Lead research to push material performance and turn discoveries into next-gen solutions.
• Partner with product, hardware, and software teams to iterate material performance based on customer feedback.
• Develop methodologies to evaluate material formulations with SLS print systems — balancing chemistry, thermal dynamics, and printing parameters.

Your financial investment will grow with us in accordance to your impact.At Formlabs, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization.The annual base pay range for this role is:$75,000—$142,000 USD
