  • Assemble tooling setups for the slitting line using spacers, knives, and rings.
  • Determine required widths from part numbers and customer orders.
  • Create precise shimless setups using setup software and PN data.

  • Calibrate measuring tools daily and record results.
  • Input dimensions into computer software to generate setup data.
  • Determine clearance using the provided clearance chart.
  • Load and thread master coil up to the slitter head and band material if needed.
  • Maintain 5S standards and participate in training for next ops phase.

Job Details

Job Location: TRINITY, AL 35673The setup person is tasked with safely and efficiently configuring the slitter arbors to ensure precise slit widths that meet our customers' requirements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Assemble tooling setups for the slitting line, utilizing tooling spacers, slitter knives, and stripper rings.

  • Follow part numbers (PN) and straightforward instructions to ascertain the required widths for customer orders.

  • Utilize the provided setup software and PN data to create a precise shimless setup.

  • Use a tape measure, caliper, and micrometers to ensure the final product aligns with customer specifications, cross-referencing measurements with customer requirements.

  • Perform daily calibration of tape measure, caliper, and micrometer, meticulously recording the results.

  • Input necessary widths and parameters into the computer for the software program to generate setup information.

  • Determine the required clearance for the setup using the provided clearance chart.

  • Load and thread a master coil up to the slitter head.

  • Be capable of banding finished material as needed.

  • Maintain proper 5S and housekeeping standards within the designated work area.

  • Initiate training for the next phase of slitter operation, focusing on the role of the chief operator.

  • Other duties as assigned.


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION


  • High school education or GED required. Candidate must have the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment. Candidate must be able to also meet the physical requirements of the job including the ability to lift 50 pounds and work on your feet on a concrete floor for the entire shift. Candidate must also be able to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team environment. Candidate must be qualified on tubes.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Position demands prolonged periods of standing, walking, and operating machinery.

  • Operators must have precise hand-eye coordination to handle equipment and materials effectively.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and manipulate heavy materials and equipment.

  • Capacity to endure repetitive tasks and maintain focus for extended periods.

  • Ability to hear warning signals and communicate effectively in a noisy environment.

  • Clear vision is necessary to inspect materials and read gauges and instruments accurately.

  • Problem-solving skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during operations.

  • Operators must be capable of making quick decisions to optimize processes and minimize downtime.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing production demands and work effectively under pressure.

  • Effective communication is essential for coordinating with team members and reporting any issues promptly.

  • Maintain orderly work areas and adhere to production schedules.


EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS:


  • Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • The primary work environment is within a steel manufacturing facility, which may include:

  • Exposure to moving machinery, heavy equipment, and sharp objects.

  • Work areas may be subject to fluctuating temperatures, including hot and cold conditions, dependent on the season.

  • Loud noise from machinery and equipment operation.

  • The presence of dust, debris, and airborne particles typical of an industrial setting.

  • Adherence to strict safety protocols to mitigate risks associated with the manufacturing process.


SUPERVISION AND CO-WORKERS/ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:


  • Supervision and/or co-worker assistance are readily available. Attendance is closely monitored, as unscheduled absences may jeopardize meeting customer requirements due to insufficient staffing.


CONSEQUENCES IF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS NOT PERFORMED


  • Failure to follow established safety rules and procedures may result in loss of position or termination of employment.

  • Failure to meet the requirements of the Attendance Policy will result in termination of employment.

  • Failure to observe safety procedures in material handling may result in serious injury up to fatality and/or damage and loss of material or property.

  • Failure to process charts in priority order may result in production delays or customer delivery delays, which may in turn result in the loss of business.

  • Failure to follow proper operating procedures may result in excess scrap which may in turn result in production delays or customer delivery delays. This may result in decreased profitability and/or the loss of business.

  • Failure to complete appropriate paperwork may result in inventory shortage through loss of material or improper billing of the customer.
