Job Description:

As a Slitter Operator at Mill Steel Company, your main responsibility is to setup and operate a steel coil slitter according to customer specifications and work orders. We’ll rely on you for regular equipment inspection and the ability to measure dimensions, align parts and produce material according to production instructions.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Daily and prior to use, inspects slitter and measuring devices for defective operation and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
  • Observes work order as not to exceed capacity of equipment.
  • Reads work orders for specifications to determine machine set up and material requirements.
  • Inspects material to ensure it meets quality standards of customer.
  • Operates the machine's main control panel and observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular uncoiling, cutting and recoiling or machine malfunction.
  • Coordinates and assists in the machine's setup and changeover of new setups for coils.
  • Measures material dimensions by using tape measure, micrometer, and calipers to determine product is being processed to customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Bands and secures coils at the end of the slitting process.
  • Assists maintenance to troubleshoot malfunctions or complete preventative maintenance as necessary.
  • Removes scrap from machine and empties hopper as needed.
  • Enters alphabetic and numeric data onto source documents and into computer following format displayed on screen.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2+ years of steel coil slitting operator experience required.
  • Ability to perform complete setup and operational tasks of slitting machine.
  • Ability to use micrometers and calipers as needed.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
