Job summary

Metals USA in Union, NJ seeks a Slitter Operator to join our manufacturing team. You will set up burning equipment, position materials, inspect sizes, and manage the flow of plates using cranes and forklifts. This is a non-exempt, hourly role with opportunities for growth.

Applicants should have a High School/Technical School background, basic math and English, and comfort with safety rules. Team players with a willingness to learn will thrive here.

Qualifications

• High School/Technical School graduate with basic English reading and writing.
• Basic arithmetic and measurement skills for decimals, fractions and tapes.
• Experience operating overhead crane and forklift equipment.
• Ability to understand safety rules and OSHA standards.
• Team oriented with reliability and basic computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Set up burning machine, adjust tips, gas flow, feeds and tolerances.
• Position material and fixtures in the machine bed using gauges.
• Select materials per work order and inspect for size and color codes.
• Coordinate material handling including overhead crane operation.
• Review CAD drawings and work orders; perform quality inspections.
• Stack, band and palletize finished products for shipment.
• Operate forklift and overhead crane as part of warehouse duties.

Base Wage:

$19 - $24/hour

Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Sets up burning machine, selects proper burning tip, sets gas flow and machine feed rates, location of cutting, lines dimensions, tolerances, operational sequences and uses gauges, calipers, squares, rulers for measurement.
• Sets up and aligns specified material or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, shims, or hand tools.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order. Inspects plates for thickness, length, width, heat number, grade specification and color code.
• Coordinates and executes material handling to be processed including operation of overhead crane.
• Reviews CAD drawings, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certification.
• Stacks, bands, and palletizes finished products for shipment.
• Performs the duties of a warehouse worker to include operating a forklift & overhead crane.

Requirements:

• High School/Technical School Graduate with basic English reading & writing comprehension
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate & convert decimals and fractions
• Basic measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and a tape measure, caliper or micrometer.
• Experience of operating an overhead crane, forklift, hand tools and common shop machinery
• Basic computer knowledge
• Ability to understand and use Safety Rules and Procedures as well as OSHA standards and regulations
• Must exercise a reasonable degree of judgment and possess the ability to recognize appropriate company policies that apply in each situation and follow them
• Must be able to understand customers packaging requirements and assess product quality
• Work as a Team member
