Tempered and Specialty Metals, Inc. in Sterling Heights is seeking a Slitter Operator to oversee the slitter line with a goal of 95% efficiency. The role includes cross-training Slitter Helpers and coordinating with plant management to ensure smooth production.

You will monitor gauges, set up tools, and enter production data daily. The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or equivalent and 1+ year of machine operator experience, with 2+ years of coil slitting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up by placing spacers and knives on tension arm for specified widths.
  • Monitor the slitting process and adjust for coil gauge as needed.
  • Enter exact specifications into data entry forms/computer.
  • Direct Slitter Helper for efficient coil staging.
  • Inform Plant Manager when supplies are low.
  • Safely move coils with Hi-lo and operate the overhead crane.
  • Maintain clean, organized work area throughout the day.
  • Use precision measuring tools for accuracy.

Job description

Tempered and Specialty Metals, Inc. (TSM) is seeking a Slitter Operator for our Sterling Heights location. The Slitter Operator is responsible for the overall productivity of the slitter line, with a goalof 95% efficiency, and cross-trains Slitter Helpers at Tempered and Specialty Metals.

Responsibilities and Duties

At a minimum, the following is a basic description of typical duties and responsibilitiesexpected of the Slitter Operator position. These duties are not exhaustive and are subjectto change as the needs of the organization require.

  • Build set-ups by placing spacers and knives onto the tension arm at specified widths for the steel coils to be cut to the customer’s specifications.
  • Monitor the process of steel being cut, knowing the gauge of each coil and adjusting accordingly.
  • Enter data for the exact specifications onto the appropriate form for data entry into the computer.
  • Direct Slitter Helper how to stage coils to be processed for maximum efficiency.
  • Inform Plant Manager when supplies to perform job duties are in low supply.
  • Safely drive the Hi-lo through the plant to move coils and skids to designated areas and operate the over-head crane to move coils from the slitter to packaging.
  • Keep immediate work area clean and organized throughout the day.
  • Use precision when operating tools such as tape measures, micrometers, nibblers and calipers.
  • Maintain facility, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Keep a clean and safe work environment.
  • Cross train the Slitter Helper.
  • Adhere to all TSM’s safety rules, regulations, and quality standards, handbook policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ year(s) machine operator experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of coil slitting experience
