Job summary

T. Burnett & Co. seeks a Slitter Machine Operator to oversee the overall operation of the slitter and to ensure timely, safe production of high-quality foam products.

You will perform daily setup, monitor blade sharpness, verify proper cores, tape, and shrink-wrap, complete the Slitter Production Report, and conduct quality checks including heat-seal integrity. A High School diploma or GED is required; candidates should be able to stand for long periods, lift moderate weights, and follow work

Responsibilities

• Check blade sharpness.
• Dress and set grinders properly.
• Ensure machine and conveyors function properly.
• Select the proper size cores, tape, and shrink-wrap per Customer Product Master.
• Complete data on the Slitter Production Report (material type, run, length, size, color, specs, customer and WTB information).
• Have handheld and mounted gauges ready for quality checks.
• Verify heat seal wire setup and machine operation.

DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for the overall operation of the Slitter Machine and supplying good, quality product with the ability to meet deadlines in a safe manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

1. Check Sharpness of the blade.
2. Grinders have been dressed and set properly.
3. The machine and conveyors function properly.
4. Have in place the proper size cores, tape, and shrink-wrap according to the Customer Product Master.
5. Complete all information at the top of the Slitter Production Report including material type, run and length number, actual size, color, specifications, customer and WTB order information.
6. Have ready hand held and mounted gages for Quality checks.
7. Visually check that heat seal wire is set properly and the machine functions.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

1. Verify the foam type of the Lengths being cut against the ticket order.
2. Notify Group Leader to perform First Article Inspection when he begins to cut a different thickness or cuts a different order.
3. Assure proper handling of the yardage counter.
4. Check each length for visual defects which must be removed prior to Heat sealing.
5. Guarantee integrity of each heat seal.
6. Measure and record dimensional data (e.g. - SPC) when required contractually or by customer-specific instructions.
7. Ensure all quality standards are met in accordance with the work instructions.
