Job Overview

Supervises personnel and daily work activities within the sleep lab.

Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Certification.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
Experience
  • Three (3) years of experience as a registered sleep tech.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements describe the general nature of work for this role. They are not exhaustive, and other duties may be assigned as needed.

  1. Serve as the primary educator for sleep staff, ensuring compliance with standards set by the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS) and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
  2. Coordinate and evaluate clinical, financial, material, and human resources in the ND services, maintaining effective communication with medical staff and healthcare providers.
  3. Ensure adequate staffing for the lab, troubleshoot issues to prevent delays, and perform service recovery as needed. Act in the absence of the Director.
  4. Provide feedback on technologist performance, assist with hiring and performance management, and coach staff.
  5. Monitor the operational budget, analyze variances, and implement actions to stay within budget.
  6. Lead efforts toward AASM accreditation and maintain standards.
  7. Review recorded impulses technically and demonstrate proper setup for tests.
  8. Detect and eliminate artifacts, calibrate equipment, and ensure proper electrode placement.
  9. Accurately score polysomnograms, summarizing sleep/wake periods and physiological events, preparing reports for physician interpretation.
  10. Describe clinical manifestations observed during procedures.
  11. Interact with patients to obtain cooperation and ensure safety.
  12. Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to polysomnography.
  13. Promote problem solving, peer review, and team building, serving as a professional role model.
  14. Perform Quality Assurance on equipment and staff.
  15. Maintain proficiency with polysomnographic equipment and departmental policies.
  16. Provide feedback on staff performance and customer satisfaction.
  17. Participate in clinical and on-call rotations as needed.
  18. Manage daily workflow, staff scheduling, and work assignments.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull at least 40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work during unscheduled hours.
Work Environment

Performs sleep studies in accordance with policies, including bedside and critical care areas.

Skills and Abilities
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients.
