Sleep Away Camp Director of First Aid/Nurse

Position Summary

This position works with the camp administration to ensure the overall health and safety of campers and staff. The Healthcare Director is responsible for maintaining accurate records according to State and local regulations, GSUSA, ACA, Safety Activity Check Point Standards, and GSOFCT Policies.

Major Accountabilities
  • Coordinate and deliver healthcare and safety procedures with camp operations for campers and staff.
  • Review health forms before camp, ensure compliance, and communicate with families about paperwork status.
  • Inform camp staff of any health issues affecting camp programs.
  • Attend advisory meetings to update leaders on health and behavioral issues.
  • Ensure medications comply with standards and are dispensed as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of health information.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide necessary care.
  • Document healthcare activities and ensure logs are signed by the Camp Physician weekly.
  • Prepare incident reports and necessary paperwork per guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and infection control in the Health Center and facilities.
  • Report equipment and facility repairs.
  • Participate in opening and closing procedures of the healthcare center.
  • Restock inventory and participate in camp activities and meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with the Camp Director about activities and concerns.
  • Lead health screenings, communicate with parents, and assist in staff training.
  • Maintain professional relationships and perform other duties as assigned.
Skills And Competencies
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • 2+ years healthcare experience preferred; High School diploma required; higher education preferred.
  • RN, LPN, Paramedic, or EMT licensed in CT preferred.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration, Epi-pen, and Inhaler certifications required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with children and diverse groups.
Physical Aspects Of The Job
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Endure outdoor work in various weather conditions and traverse uneven terrain.
