SLD Thermal Hardware Structural Analysis Engineer III - Lunar Permanence

This position is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, focusing on developing Blue Moon lander product lines and building sustainable infrastructure for lunar transport. You will work directly with NASA and our partners on the Human Landing System (HLS) program, playing a key role in returning humans to the Moon and establishing a permanent human presence beyond Earth.

Responsibilities
  • Design, analysis, development, and testing of secondary structures, including composites and metallic parts, as well as integrated structural assemblies.
  • Collaborate with thermal hardware engineers to develop structurally sound and thermally appropriate components.
  • Build 3D models, detail drawings, assemblies, and interface control documents.
  • Coordinate with subsystem teams on structural interface design.
  • Provide manufacturing and production support, including travel when necessary.
  • Support configuration development, trade studies, and subsystem testing.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams on material selection, manufacturing processes, and supplier coordination.
  • Plan, conduct, and review tests; analyze test data.
  • Develop and purchase new equipment and tooling.
  • Maintain activity schedules, budgets, and technical reports.
  • Mentor junior engineers and identify operational improvements.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in engineering with 5+ years of related experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.
  • Experience with launch vehicles, spacecraft, or aircraft structures, including metallic component design, load path analysis, and material selection.
  • Strong understanding of structural analysis fundamentals and mechanical design using Creo.
  • Ability to perform both classical and finite element analysis.
  • Knowledge of aerospace sizing methods and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
Desired Qualifications
  • M.S. in engineering with 7+ years of experience.
  • Expertise in bonded and bolted joints, analysis codes (e.g., Ansys, Nastran), and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong communication skills and experience in hardware development and manufacturing.
