Reports To: Mill Services Manager

Location: Ghent, KY

Overview of Position:

The Slag Loader operates heavy equipment to safely remove, transport and dispose of hot slag from furnaces and pits, ensuring smooth steel production.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Operate specialized loaders to scoop, move and load slag into designated areas or transport vehicles
• Move slag from furnaces, ladles and slag pits to cooling or processing zones
• Communicate continuously with furnace operators, control rooms and yard personnel for seamless workflow and timely removal
• Conduct pre-shift inspections and routine checks to ensure peak performance and safety
• Record slag quantities, disposal details and report any equipment abnormalities
• Keep slag handling areas clean, organized and safe

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

• Ability to work in extreme heat, dust and hazardous conditions
• Strong understanding of industrial safety procedures
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Physical stamina and attention to detail

This job takes place in a Steel Mill setting, requiring a sense of high-level safety reverence using the required PPE for the environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen in potentially noisy indoor and outdoor environments. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk on both flat and uneven surfaces, sit, climb stairs, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This job requires the employee to lift at least 50 pounds on a regular basis.

Required Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Driver's License
• Willingness to work in a Steel Mill
• Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred but not required
