Job summary

Zachry Construction Corporation in Channelview, TX is seeking a Structural Iron Worker to raise, place, and connect iron or steel girders and other structural members on bridge projects. The role demands experience with heavy civil construction, working at elevated heights, outdoors, and following blueprints.

You will read specs, connect and bolt members, rig and hoist with cranes, weld or cut steel, and ensure proper alignment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of heavy civil structural ironworker experience.
• Comfortable working at elevations up to 500 feet.
• Able to work outdoors up to 100% of the time.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Extensive physical activity including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
• Strong judgment to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
• Dependable, self-motivated, and task-oriented with a strong work ethic.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Read specifications or blueprints to determine locations, quantities, or sizes of materials.
• Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts as per blueprints and supervisor instructions.
• Bolt aligned structural steel for riveting, bolting, or welding.
• Hazard-free rigging and hoisting of steel members with cranes or signaling equipment.
• Rig and hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into position.
• Verify alignment using plumb bobs, lasers, transits, or levels.
• Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces per instructions.
• Erect metal or precast concrete components.
• Guide structural members into final positions using hand tools.
• Position structural members for bolting with drift pins.
• Assemble hoisting equipment and rigging for moving heavy equipment.
• Fabricate metal parts per blueprints.
