Job summary

LiquidPiston in Suffield, CT seeks a hands-on Skunkwerks Engineer to join our core team. You will design, prototype, test, and iterate rotary and piston engine components from concept to running hardware.

Work directly with engineers and technicians, shaping critical decisions in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. Strong CAD/FEA skills, DFM/DFA experience, and a passion for challenging propulsion problems are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• CAD software proficiency; SolidWorks preferred; CATIA/NX also acceptable.
• FeA experience for structural, stress, and thermal analysis of engine components.
• GD&T knowledge and metrology tools.
• Engine prototype development and validation experience.
• DFM and DFA understanding to enable manufacturable designs.
• Experience with engine assembly techniques.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop critical engine components.
• Create detailed CAD models and drawings in SolidWorks.
• Conduct structural, thermal, and durability analyses.
• Support prototype builds with manufacturing partners.
• Participate in engine assembly, teardown, and testing.
• Lead design reviews, root-cause analysis, and test interpretation.
• Use test data to drive design improvements.
• Apply DFM and DFA to ensure manufacturability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, testing, controls, quality teams.
• Balance priorities and adapt to changing tests.
• Take ownership from concept through prototype, test, failure analysis, and final solution.
