Job Title: Skills Instructor
Department: Family Support
To provide specialized services and supports to program participants to help acquire skills and promote independence. Complies with all principles of Human Rights, D.P.P.C., Department of Developmental Services, the Division of Medical Assistance and all other applicable funding regulations as adhered to by Lifeworks.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High School Diploma or GED. Direct experience working with individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Specific competencies required to meet the support needs of the participant as delineated in the Support Plan or Behavioral Intervention Plan.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to staff, individuals, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one‑or‑two‑step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications. If working with children and/or infants, will need to be certified in child and infant CPR and First Aid. Valid and current driver’s license from the state of residency.
Requires a legally insured and inspected automobile for use to be presented at work and available for use during working hours. If the program has an agency vehicle, staff are expected to drive it as needed.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and driving up to two hundred miles per month. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
