Job summary

Bowen Health is seeking a Skills Technician to aid families by teaching, advocating and modeling new skills toward independent self-care. The role may involve transporting patients, providing case management and skill-building services at Bowen Health locations, in the community, or in patients' homes.

From intake updates to coordinating homemaker services, you will support a caseload that may include children, adolescents or adults, participating in medical appointments and documenting care

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 undergraduate credits, or a high school diploma or GED with at least four years of prior experience.
• Two years of experience in a mental health setting preferred.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification must be obtained after hire and kept current.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid certifications must be obtained after hire and kept current.
• Valid driver’s license and active auto insurance are required; background checks will be conducted.

Responsibilities

• Review and update patient intake information for accuracy.
• Coordinate homemaker services with Case Manager as determined by care coordination plan.
• Instruct patients in homemaker services including cleanliness, personal hygiene, budgeting, and activities of daily living.
• Advocate, teach, demonstrate, monitor, and model appropriate housekeeping.
• Transport patients to appointments and assist with related transportation tasks.
• Complete all clinical documentation accurately with start/stop times and timely submission.
• Participate in medical appointments with the organization’s medical staff.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Skills Technician aids and supports parents who are unable to appropriately fulfill parenting and homemaking functions. The Technician assists families through advocating, teaching, demonstrating, monitoring, and/or role modeling new, appropriate skills towards self-sufficiency. This role may be responsible for transporting patients for appointments. Additionally, this role may also provide case management and skill building services to the assigned caseload. These services may be provided at a Bowen Health location, in the community, and in patients’ homes. A caseload may consist of child/adolescent or adult population depending on the location and the need.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. • Participates in evaluating the needs of individualsserved andconfers with Case Manager to plan for continuingadditional
• Transport patients to and from appointments in surrounding counties while abiding by speed limits and road signs.
• Perform simple vehicle maintenance, such as fueling gastank, cleaning exterior & interior, taking vehicle for oil changes.
• Ensurepatients follow bus procedures when traveling with them on a bus including being safely seated and using seat belts.
• Build natural support systems and promote greater patient independence
• Assist patients to learn and develop new skills to improve functioning and independence
• Ensurepatients are linked with otherhealthcare providers needed
• Ensurepatients are addressing the goals that are important to them and/or their referral source
• Participate in medical appointments with the organization’s medical staff
• Ensure patients are making progress and are discharged at an appropriate amount of time
• Transport patients as needed and appropriate to their care
• Complete all clinical documentationaccurately, using exact startand stop times, and submitting timely.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Occupational Exposure Risk Classification: The normal work routine involves minimal exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
• The normal work routine has a minimalergonomic risk for repetitive motion impairment.
• The position may require a minimal amount of physical exertion (bending, lifting, twisting) in the work area.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Associate degree orsixty (60)undergraduate credit hours, orHigh School Diploma or GED accepted with a minimum offour (4)years of prior experience.
• Experience: Prefer two (2) years in a mental health setting.
• Certificate or Professional License:
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - Certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid - Certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
• Valid driver’s license and active auto insurance coverage.
• Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
• Must be aminimum of 21years of age.
• Must be aminimum 25 years of age tooperatea Bowen vehicle.
