Job summary

Tri-Development Center is seeking a Skills Coach to support individuals in developing skills and pursuing inclusive employment opportunities within the community.

The position requires strong interpersonal skills, basic computer proficiency, and a valid driver’s license with access to a car. You will work with the Training Supervisor, document activities, and help plan and provide supervision to participants.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Must have 3+ work-related references.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a car for use on the job.

Responsibilities

  • Develop activities plans to help individuals gain skills, hobbies, relationships, and responsibilities for inclusive living.
  • Create opportunities for individuals to try different activities they may enjoy.
  • Collaborate with Supported Employment/Employment Specialists to identify and develop work opportunities.
  • Help individuals maintain participation in desired activities and build relationships at home, work, and community.
  • Use person-centered approaches to identify desired settings and activities and support skill development.
  • Provide supervision and supports as specified in individuals’ plans and perform other duties as assigned.

Vocational Services
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED and must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be supported by three (3) or more work related references.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record, as determined by Board policy, and a car for use on the job.

Primary Responsibility: To support people in obtaining needed skills and opportunities to work and/or participate inclusively in the community.

Specific Responsibilities:
A. Community/Employment Inclusion
  1. Assists in development of a plan of activities with people (as assigned by the agency) that will ensure they have opportunities to develop skills, hobbies, relationships, and responsibilities to lead full and inclusive lives. Activities may include education, volunteer work, employment, and leisure.
  2. Creates opportunities for people to try different activities that they may enjoy.
  3. Works collaboratively with Supported Employment/Employment Specialists to identify and develop work opportunities.
  4. Helps people maintain participation in desired activities.
  5. Encourages and supports people in developing and maintaining relationships at home, work, and in the community.
  6. Utilizes person centered approaches to identify desired settings and activities.
  7. Supports the person in identifying and developing skills needed to be successful in his/her desired settings and activities including but not limited to self-help, cognitive, vocational, communication, and recreational skills.
  8. Exhibits a non-judgmental attitude to people who may exhibit behavioral challenges and works with other team members to ensure these behaviors are managed effectively and consistently. Assists these individuals in developing skills to support self-management of behaviors. Consistently addresses challenging behaviors proactively, respectfully, and by avoiding the use of aversive or deprivation intervention techniques.
  9. Provides supervision and supports as specified in individuals’ plans.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
B. Documentation of activities and services as specified by the agency and statutory organizations including:
  1. Documentation of training as specified in the individual’s day treatment plan.
  2. Tracking community/employment/inclusion activities.
  3. Completing incident reports as necessary.
  4. Accurately completing time sheets/mileage.
  5. Any additional documentation as requested.
  6. Submitting all required documentation in a timely manner.
General Responsibilities:
A. Relationships and Contact with Others
  1. To establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with assigned persons, families, co-workers, outside agencies and community members.
  2. Conducts self in a manner that serves as a positive role model to other staff, individuals receiving services, their families, volunteers, businesses, other agencies, and the public.
B. Schedule and Time Management
  1. Is expected to work a full-time position primarily between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm, Monday – Friday. Flexibility before and after duty and weekend hours may be required and will depend on schedule demands.
  2. Effectively schedules and terminates visits/sessions.
  3. Keeps supervisor informed of his/her work schedule.
  4. Will effectively complete all assignments in a timely manner.
C. Communication
  1. Communicates in a manner that is easily understood, concise, and professional.
  2. Provides information to supervisor concerning unavailability, tardiness, and leave requests prior to the event.
  3. Returns supervisor’s contact attempts in a timely manner.
D. Policies and Procedures
  1. Will adhere to Tri-Development Center’s Policies and Procedures as outlined in the Policy manual.
  2. Will follow the provisions of all memorandums, directives, and applicable manuals.
  3. Will follow all policies and laws pertaining to client confidentiality.
E. Transports individuals as needed in an agency vehicle or personal vehicle.

F. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisor:

The direct supervisor for the Skills Coach will be the Training Supervisor. Meetings will be held as necessary, but at a minimum of once per month, with the Skills Coach and the Training Supervisor. The Skills Coach shall be responsible for keeping his/her supervisor informed of any problems related to performing his/her duties and/or complying with the standards and policies under which the agency operates.

Typical Physical Demands:

The Skills Coach must have the ability to move intermittently throughout the workday. Activities include sitting, standing, bending, lifting, driving, making and receiving phone calls, completing paperwork/reports, and possibly physical intervention with upset, combative, and/or psychotic individuals. He/she is subject to lifting, carrying, and restraining individuals and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:

He/she must be willing to accept other positions temporarily, when necessary. He/she may be subject to falls, infectious diseases, odors, noises, and physical injury due to behavior intervention. This position will be considered non-exempt for the purposes of overtime compensation.
