Job Summary:
The Waterfront Rescue Mission, recognized in 2025 as one of the Best Christian Workplaces in the country, is hiring a positive, highly productive, safety-minded and team oriented Skills and Pathways Chaplain to join our team at the Mobile Mission location. Under the direction of the Mission Director and the Ministry Management Team, this position provides compassionate individual attention to clients in the ministry programs with a focus of binging over-arching Biblical principles into practical daily living. Performs all reasonably related duties as assigned.

- Christian Commitment: Must exemplify and model Christian behaviors and values and possess high levels of ethics, honesty and character.
- Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid government issued driver's license or valid photo identification card and be insurable by the WRM's insurance carrier if driving is an essential function of the position.
- Must have an endorsement from a recognized Christian body (preferred).
- Minimum of two years experience as a pastor, teacher or lay leader desired.
- Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be an effective presenter of scripture.
- Must possess a high degree of commitment to client confidentiality.
- Must accept and establish rapport with persons struggling with issues of addiction and recovery.
- Must agree with and signs the Mission's Statement of Faith.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Partners with assigned clients to develop, implement, and monitor individualized service plans focused on personal development, education, employment, financial stability, and successful transition to the independent living program phase.
- Provides ongoing case management and accountability, regularly assessing client progress, identifying barriers, coordinating resources, and adjusting service plans as needed to support successful completion of the program.
- Provides specialized education and employment counseling, including helping clients identify appropriate educational, vocational, certification, and workforce-training opportunities; navigate admissions and enrollment processes; develop education and career plans, conducting vocational assessment, and assisting with resume development, interview preparation, job-search strategies, workplace readiness, and development of realistic career and employment goals.
- Assists clients in identifying and applying for appropriate public benefits, disability benefits, grants, scholarships, financial assistance, and other community resources, including providing guidance and advocacy throughout application and follow-up processes.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with workforce development organizations, staffing agencies, employers, colleges, vocational and technical schools, training providers, government agencies, churches, and community service organizations to expand opportunities and resources available to clients.
- Advocates for clients and facilitates productive relationships with employers, educational institutions, workforce partners, probation officers, court systems, churches, mentors, and other individuals or organizations involved in the client's successful transition.
- Provides Biblical counsel and spiritual guidance in a manner consistent with the Mission's Christian purpose, addressing spiritual, emotional, relational, behavioral, and practical life issues that may affect the client's recovery and ability to live independently.
- Helps clients develop practical life skills and Christian character, including financial management and budgeting, healthy relationships, parenting, communication, decision-making, personal responsibility, conflict resolution, and other skills necessary for sustainable independence.
- Counsels clients individually and in group settings and serves as a mediator and support during times of conflict, crisis, or significant life transition.
- Facilitates or assists with Chapel, Bible studies, individual and group classes, recovery activities, life-skills programming, and other spiritual or educational activities.
- Conducts client assessments; prepares evaluations, recommendations, and other documentation as needed; and maintains timely, accurate, and confidential case notes and records in the designated case management system.
- Provides appropriate referrals, vouchers, direct assistance, and other resources to address immediate needs and remove barriers to recovery, education, employment, and independent living.
- Promotes a grace-based, adult-to-adult environment that emphasizes personal responsibility, dignity, growth, and empowerment rather than punishment or reward-based behavior modification.
- Conducts random drug screenings as directed by the Program Manager and performs other program-related monitoring responsibilities as assigned.
- Monitors and follows all applicable Mission policies and procedures, including requirements related to client medications, safety, harassment and staff concerns, confidentiality and protection of client records, financial and cash-handling procedures, and other operational requirements.
- Attends required staff, safety, client, and other Mission meetings and communicates relevant client, program, and operational concerns to appropriate leadership.
- Researches, develops, and presents relevant Christian and personal-development material in a nondenominational, nonjudgmental, and accessible manner.
- Provides facility, logistical, administrative, and other ministry support as assigned.
- Participates in required training and may travel periodically for training, conferences, meetings, or temporary duty assignments.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Mission management.
Computer Skills:

- Intermediate computers skills are required for this position, which include aptitude in the use of the Internet, e-mail, spreadsheets, and maintaining data bases through means of accurately and proficiently entering data.
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and case management software; basic typing skills a must.
