Job summary

Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) invites eligible agency employees to apply for the Transportation Maintainer 3 (Skilled Tree Climber) role within the Bureau of Highway Operations at the Winchester and Cornwall Maintenance Garages.

The position focuses on safety-focused roadside maintenance, hazardous tree removal, limb trimming, and operation of equipment including chainsaws and bucket trucks.

Qualifications

• Current CDL Class A or B with tank endorsement and MEC are required.
• Willing to perform emergency winter duties with mandatory overtime as needed.
• Must reside within 30 miles of the posted job location.
• Certification in aerial bucket truck operation and fall protection required before interview.
• Interview includes a skill practicum per Department guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Perform tree and roadside maintenance to ensure safety and clear travel zones.
• Operate equipment such as chainsaws, bucket trucks and climbing gear.
• Assist with snow/ice removal, storm cleanup and pothole patching.
• Support guardrail repairs and related district duties.
• May respond to traffic incidents and supervise materials in stockroom.
