Job description

The City of Lansing is seeking to fill a full-time Skilled Trades Worker 500 position within the Property Management Division of the Public Service Department. The successful candidate will support building maintenance and repair efforts for commercial structures, contributing to a stable work environment with a competitive wage and benefits package including medical, vision, dental, paid leave, and opportunities for professional growth.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

1. Performing maintenance and repair duties in City facilities, including cleaning and servicing equipment such as engines, motors, boilers, and pumps using hand and power tools.
2. Inspecting equipment for defects and malfunctions, and reporting issues to supervision.
3. Conducting preventative maintenance on equipment as scheduled.
4. Monitoring equipment operation and maintaining logs.
5. Lifting and hauling tools and supplies weighing up to 95 pounds.
6. Performing repair tasks on City-owned buildings, including working at heights on ladders and scaffolding.
7. Maintaining heating, air-conditioning, and mechanical systems using hand tools.
8. Assisting supervisors with complex maintenance tasks.
9. Responding to emergency repair requests and diagnosing issues.
10. Using respirators and handling chemicals for various repair and maintenance tasks.
11. Performing basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry repairs, including fabricating and welding.

Ideal Candidate Will Possess

• High School Diploma or GED
• Four (4) years of experience in plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and electrical tasks, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special Requirements

• Criminal background check and participation in LEIN fingerprinting.
• Ability to be bonded under the City's blanket bond.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Participation in Hepatitis B inoculation program.
• Completion of Industrial Truck Training and Certification.
• Confined Space, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Trench Excavation Safety Training.
• Overtime or shift work may be required for emergencies.
