Job summary

Dave Steel Company in Shelby, NC, is seeking a Fitter/Welder for the Shelby Fabrication Facility on the 1st shift. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will read fabrication drawings, measure with feet and inches, and perform welds to exacting standards while adhering to safety procedures.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of structural steel experience, can read blueprints and tape measures, and passes required welder qualifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of fitting/welding structural steel experience.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
• Ability to operate overhead cranes.
• Current or past AWS certification for FCAW, MCAW.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
• A team player who can interrelate with peers within a collegial, yet demanding environment.

Responsibilities

• Read and follow detailed written instructions and fabrication drawings.
• Perform accurate measurements and calculations using feet, inches, and fractions.
• Successfully pass a 1-inch thick 2-G welder qualification.
• Pass a tack welder qualification (visual macro break test).
• Operate carbon air-arc equipment for back gouging processes.
• Ensure safe work practices are adhered to, and appropriate PPE is worn at all times.
• Mentor apprentices and junior fitter/welders by sharing knowledge and safe work practices.
