City of Akron is seeking a skilled carpenter foreman to maintain, repair and construct educational facilities. The role requires several years of carpentry experience, strong blueprint and safety knowledge, and the ability to lead a team while coordinating with school staff.

The position involves supervising work, ensuring proper use of hand and power tools, and maintaining records. Applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED and a valid Ohio driver’s license.

Formación

• Graduation from an accredited High School or GED.
• Minimum of three years' paid experience in the carpentry trade as it pertains to building maintenance; including paid experience in the operation of power equipment used in the carpentry trade.
• State of Ohio Driver’s License.
• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to listen effectively and actively.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Skilled in concrete flat footer, and foundation completion.
• Skilled in block laying.
• Skilled in floor, sidewall, and rafter framing.
• Skilled in basic carpentry math.
• Skilled in plastic laminating, and other skills such as roofing in residential housing.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
• Ability to work with the general public as customers.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Ability to read and understand verbal and written instruction, written warnings and labels.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams and blueprints.
• Knowledge of methods, standard practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
• Skilled in the use of tools, machinery and equipment of the trade.
• Knowledge of carpentry materials including the ability to inspect lumber for grade quality and use.

Responsabilidades

• Maintain all Akron Public Schools Buildings; repair, build from scratch, modify or retro-fit any project; provide a safe and functional environment for students and staff.
• Operate power tools and equipment properly and safely.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required.
• Attend meetings and seminars as required.
• Interact with staff, students and parents in a positive, professional manner.
• Supervise lower-grade employees and delegate tasks as appropriate.
• Interact with the public in an official capacity when required.
