Job summary

Wayne-Sanderson Farms seeks a Maintenance Mechanic in North Carolina to perform preventive maintenance, servicing and repairs of large manufacturing equipment (hydraulic, pneumatic, conveyor, etc.). You will inspect, service and repair to keep production running efficiently.

Responsibilities include documenting work, ordering parts, coordinating with supervisors, and implementing process improvements. Strong reading of schematics and good communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; vocational certificate preferred.
  • Mechanically inclined with relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to read schematics/blueprints to diagnose problems.
  • Good communication skills; multilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines, including cleaning, oiling and lubricating; change belts as needed to keep equipment in optimal condition.
  • Identify root causes of unexpected breakdowns and repair quickly to reduce downtime.
  • Record and report damaged or worn parts; order and install replacements as needed; prepare work reports.
  • Clean, organize, inventory and maintain shop areas, tools and supplies; stock parts as needed.
  • Coordinate with managers to schedule regular maintenance; collaborate with department heads on new products and modifications.
  • Modify equipment and conduct tests; discuss results with product manager and implement further alterations as required.
  • Follow PPE and safety policies to promote a zero-accident culture; perform additional duties as assigned.

Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Maintenance Mechanic performs preventative, maintenance, and repairs of large manufacturing equipment (hydraulic, pneumatic, conveyor, etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines, including cleaning, oiling, lubricating, changing belts machinery as necessary to ensure machines are in optimal working condition. Identify root cause of unexpected breakdowns of machines; repair quickly and efficiently to decrease downtime for machine. Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts, ordering and installing replacement parts for machines as needed. Prepare reports documenting work performed. Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies as needed. Coordinate with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines. Collaborate with department heads regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required. Make necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with product manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required. Identify opportunities for improvement, present to appropriate leader, and implement, lead or participate in solution implementation. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in all areas where mandatory helping to promote a zero-accident culture. Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: None. This is an individual contributor role with required competencies: Functional/Technical Skills, Action Oriented, Problem Solving, Learning on the Fly, and Interpersonal Savvy.

EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. Vocational certificate in appropriate field (i.e. welding, maintenance, electrical, etc.) preferred. Ability to take and pass internal required testing.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Mechanically inclined with relevant experience in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, etc. to diagnose problems with manufacturing equipment. Good computer literacy with ability to enter work records in appropriate program. Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in a timely and professional manner; multi-lingual strongly preferred. Ability to handle and resolve most issues in an efficient and effective manner. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects, planning skills, and a high attention to detail. Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs. Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work extended shifts (holiday, weekend and/or extended) as business need requires. Ability to work in cold/ humid or hot/ dusty environments as needed. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, crawling, stooping, kneeling, etc. with ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery. Must be able to visually inspect machines. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
