Job summary

Wayne-Sanderson Farms is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections on large manufacturing equipment. The role operates on a Monday–Friday night shift to support continuous production and requires strong mechanical aptitude and schematics literacy.

The position offers on-the-job training, benefits from day one, and a starting pay rate of $31.35 per hour. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with vocational certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.
  • Identify root causes of breakdowns; repair to reduce downtime.
  • Record and report damaged parts; order and install replacements.
  • Prepare reports documenting work performed.
  • Maintain shop areas, inventory, and tools.
  • Coordinate with managers for regular maintenance scheduling.
  • Collaborate on product changes and equipment Modifications.
  • Lead or participate in improvement projects as needed.
  • Adhere to PPE and safety policies.

SHIFT DETAILS

Monday-Friday 9:00pm-5:30am Pay Rate-$31.35 Benefits available Day One On the job training

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Maintenance Mechanic performs preventative, maintenance, and repairs of large manufacturing equipment (hydraulic, pneumatic, conveyor, etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines, including cleaning, oiling, lubricating, changing belts machinery as necessary to ensure machines are in optimal working condition
  • Identify root cause of unexpected breakdowns of machines; repair quickly and efficiently to decrease downtime for machine
  • Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts, ordering and installing replacement parts for machines as needed
  • Prepare reports documenting work performed.
  • Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies as needed
  • Coordinate with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
  • Collaborate with department heads regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required
  • Make necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with product manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, present to appropriate leader, and implement, lead or participate in solution implementation
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in all areas where mandatory helping to promote a zero-accident culture
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

None. This is an individual contributor role with required competencies: Functional/Technical Skills, Action Oriented, Problem Solving, Learning on the Fly, and Interpersonal Savvy

EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent Vocational certificate in appropriate field (i.e. welding, maintenance, electrical, etc.) preferred Ability to take and pass internal required testing

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Mechanically inclined with relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, etc. to diagnose problems with manufacturing equipment
  • Good computer literacy with ability to enter work records in appropriate program
  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in a timely and professional manner; multi-lingual strongly preferred
  • Ability to handle and resolve most issues in an efficient and effective manner
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects, planning skills, and a high attention to detail
  • Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work extended shifts (holiday, weekend and/or extended) as business need requires
  • Ability to work in cold/ humid or hot/ dusty environments as needed
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, crawling, stooping, kneeling, etc. with ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
