The Winnetka Public Schools District 36 has an opening for Skilled Maintenance effective immediately.

JOB TITLE: SKILLED MAINTENANCE

LOCATION: District

CHARACTERISTICS: District Maintenance, Member of SEIU #73, 12-month contract (260 days) in accordance with SEIU #73 Collective Bargaining Agreement

REPORTS TO: Director of Buildings and Grounds and CFO

SUPERVISES: Not applicable

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the CFO, in collaboration with the Director of Buildings and Grounds

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

To provide safe and clean learning and working environments across the District by maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintains safe conditions for integral parts of the building (e.g. flooring, doors, windows, stairs, ceiling panels, bathrooms, structural classroom furniture).
  2. Performs regularly scheduled maintenance and additional tasks as assigned by Director of Building and Grounds.
  3. Performs craftsman tasks relating to building repairs and improvements.
  4. Maintains building and premises to be neat and clean at all times. Keeps grounds free from rubbish.
  5. Reports to and remains at work per stated work hours.
  6. Ensures that the building is opened/closed properly and in a timely manner.
  7. Ensures that door and window systems are functioning properly.
  8. Completes assigned work orders.
  9. Plows and sands/salts sidewalks as appropriate.
  10. Reports damage of school property immediately upon being known.
  11. Complies with local, state and federal ordinances for storage and disposal of trash and waste.
  12. Instructs custodians and other maintenance personnel on the proper use of hardware and building materials, hand tools, and power equipment.
  13. Completes all District compliance training as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Perform other duties as directed by the Superintendent, CFO, or Director of Buildings and Grounds.

EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION/ CERTIFICATES/ QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Graduation from high school or technical school or comparable experience.
  2. Working knowledge of the methods, tools, mechanical equipment and techniques used in custodial work; working knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions and fire and sanitation codes.
  3. Ability to operate various types of power and hand machinery and tools.
  4. Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions/directives with a minimum of direction.
  5. Ability to make repairs on mechanical equipment and to analyze and diagnose trouble/malfunctions in more complex and sophisticated mechanical equipment.
  6. Ability to complete a variety of maintenance tasks such as, but not limited to: electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues, general repair types of tasks, and woodworking.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive public, student, and co-worker relationships.
  8. Clearance of FBI Background check required.
  9. TB test within 90 days of hire date; Physical Exam within last year of hire date.
  10. Valid First Aid/CPR Cards preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Moderate degree of physical stamina and fitness with occasional lifting up to 75 pounds, and to assist in lifting objects in excess of 75 pounds. Ability to move freely to various locations within the classrooms, offices and other community settings. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and bending. Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and fringe benefits will be established in accordance with the Winnetka Public Schools School Board and the SEIU #73 Collective Bargaining Agreement. Hourly rate begins at $22.98+ (can increase with years of experience).
