Job summary

T.E. Stevens Construction is seeking a reliable Skilled Laborer for hands-on underground utility installation in Birmingham, AL. You will work with water, sewer, and storm drainage lines, following trenching and pipe-laying practices, and committing to safety standards.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of underground utility experience, can read drawings, and can lift 50 lbs. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are preferred as you join a safety-focused crew.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in Underground utility construction (water, sewer, and storm preferred).
• Able to read and interpret construction drawings and grade stakes is a plus.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. frequently and work in confined or uneven spaces.
• Valid driver's license preferred.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the installation, repair, and replacement of underground water, sewer, and storm drainage lines.
• Perform hand-digging, trenching, backfilling, grading, and compaction tasks.
• Lay and align pipe accurately using proper tools and construction methods.
• Cut and fit pipes, install valves, manholes, catch basins, and related components.
• Operate small equipment such as tampers, compactors, or saws when necessary.
• Assist equipment operators and other skilled workers by providing labor support.
• Maintain clean and organized job sites, including proper storage of tools and materials.
• Follow all OSHA, MSHA, and company safety regulations and use required PPE at all times.
• Work as part of a crew, taking direction from supervisors and foremen.
• Communicate clearly with team members to ensure efficient and accurate work completion.
• May operate construction equipment if qualified and authorized.

Description

T.E. Stevens Construction is seeking a reliable and experienced Skilled Laborer with hands-on experience in underground utility installation, including water lines, sewer lines, and storm drainage systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, demonstrate knowledge of trenching and pipe-laying practices, and be committed to job site safety and productivity.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
