Job summary

City of Statesville (NC) seeks a Skilled Laborer for the 4th Creek WWTP to perform semi-skilled janitorial, landscaping, and repair duties within the water and wastewater divisions. You will operate mowers and power equipment and support maintenance teams.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, basic tools knowledge, and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions. Workweek is Mon-Fri, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with a closing date of 2026-10-08.

• Assists operations and maintenance teams as needed for repairs and operations.
• Performs ground and building maintenance and landscaping duties regularly.
• Performs janitorial work and general cleaning frequently.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $19.77 - $32.62 Hourly / $41,121.60 - $67,849.60 Annually

FLSA Position Class: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7AM - 3:30PM

Summary

This position is responsible for semi-skilled work in a variety of janitorial, landscaping, and repair assignments involving the use of specialized tools and equipment within the city’s water and wastewater treatment divisions.

NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. • Performs a variety of manual work in connection with the landscaping, light maintenance, and janitorial needs within the water and wastewater treatment divisions.
• Operates front end deck mowers, zero turn mowers, turf tractors, and other power equipment.

• Assists operations and maintenance teams as needed for repairs and operations of departmental duties.
• Performs ground and building maintenance as well as landscaping duties on a regular basis.
• Performs janitorial work and general cleaning on a frequent basis.

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One (1) year of experience in janitorial, landscaping, and light repairmaintenance duties.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license, or any valid driver’s license with ability to obtain a North Carolina driver’s license within 60 daysof establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of janitorial and landscaping tasks.
• Thorough knowledge in use of common and specialized hand and power tools required for work.
• Thorough knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment required in the work.
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
• Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, and the general public.
• Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner.

Job Related Physical Requirements

This position involves heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Working Conditions

The employee is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold, vibration, noise, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, oils, cutting fluids, and hazards including work around operating machinery, uneven surfaces, and narrow or confined spaces. Employees may be required to wear a respirator or mask during certain circumstances. Employees may be required to work nights, weekends, or during emergency situations when needed.
